Position Summary:
The Clinical Policies and Procedures Lead Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance and oversight of all clinical policies and procedures across the enterprise. This role ensures alignment with federal and state regulations, accreditation standards, and best practices to promote patient safety, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance. The individual collaborates cross-functionally with Legal, Compliance, Clinical, and Operations teams and serves as a key resource for policy education, onboarding, and performance improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Policy Development & Management

  • Lead the creation, revision, and biannual review of AMSURG master policies (approx. 420).
  • Design and manage standardized processes for policy requests and revisions.
  • Verify policy approvals and manage workflow through the Policy Committee.
  • Collaborate with Quality Compliance to ensure policies align with current regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Maintain active involvement with national and state organizations to stay informed of evolving legislation and its impact on clinical operations.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Identify potential compliance risks and develop policies to mitigate them.
  • Monitor adherence to policies and procedures across centers.
  • Ensure annual review and maintenance of system-wide policies, including HIPAA and Corporate Compliance.
  • Manage compliance with 2-year policy review cycles at the center level.

Training & Education

  • Develop and deliver training programs for staff on policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Provide onboarding and orientation for newly acquired centers, DeNovo centers, and new Center Administrators, ensuring full integration into PolicyStat within defined timelines.

Coordination & Communication

  • Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration on policy development and implementation.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders (incl. center leaders) involved in policymaking.
  • Serve as the clinical representative for PolicyStat, optimizing platform engagement and functionality.

Performance Improvement

  • Analyze policy usage and effectiveness to identify areas for improvement.
  • Implement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce redundancy, and streamline operations.
  • Promote standardized processes to support consistent and high-quality patient care.

Database Management

  • Manage the policy and procedure database, ensuring it is organized, accessible, and up-to-date.
  • Conduct usage analysis of PolicyStat and lead improvement initiatives.

Additional Duties

  • Assist center leaders with policy approvals and pending policy reviews.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelors degree required; advanced degrees in healthcare strongly preferred
  • 6+ years of healthcare experience required; 2+ of those years must include time overseeing policies and/or ensuring operational compliance with policies and procedures
  • Experience with healthcare policy platforms (e.g., PolicyStat) strongly preferred
  • Ambulatory surgery experience strongly preferred
  • Gastrointestinal, ophthalmologic or orthopedic surgery experience preferred

 

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals and percentages.

Language Skills:

Ability to understand, read, write and speak English. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to successfully write business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information, respond to questions and professionally interact with managers, employees, clients, vendors and the general public.

Reasoning Ability:

Demonstrates an ability to consider alternatives and implement appropriate strategies. Ability to recognize and define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and correct errors. Ability to understand and interpret basic financial data. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in a variety of forms and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

Other Qualifications:

Strong preference will be given for experience using Policy Stat. Exceptional computer skills. Must be able to handle multiple, simultaneous tasks effectively and efficiently while maintaining a professional, courteous manner. Must be able to work well with others. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Must be detail oriented and organized. High integrity, including maintenance of confidential information. Must be able to exercise good judgment and positively influence and lead others, including handling confrontations with poise and efficiency. Based on business need, the ability to work a flexible schedule.
